How to Care for Gemstones
It is important that gemstones are stored in a soft pouch which will hinder them from rubbing against each other. Some substances like oils on your skin or even dust can coat a gemstone and may cause it to lose its sparkle. Make sure that you clean your gemstones at occasions using soap and water. They should always be air dried and should be polished with a soft cloth. If dirt has built up between the crevices of your gemstone, you can brush it with a soft toothbrush to eliminate the dirt. If dirt is particularly resistant to your cleaning efforts, you can try a solution of ammonia and water. Keep the solution weak, about one part ammonia to four parts water, and use a very soft brush in this case. Using these tips, you can keep your gemstones always in good shape so that your loved one’s gift always reminds you of the love.
